We had a gorgeous sunset maternity session at Woodlawn Beach State Park. This was done in June of 2018. The mommy- to- be gave us the style she was looking for. She wanted a natural look, but still wanted a dramatic feel for some of the photos. The day of the session, the weathermen were calling for a storm. It's so hard to believe anything until it happens because they can be wrong a lot. We try to wait it out as long as we can to cancel a session. It was raining a little earlier in the day. But we usually get the best sunsets after it rains, so we all decided to go with it.
We worked in different areas of Woodlawn we had never used before. The couple was excited to venture out. In the first outfit, we worked in the tall grass and in the Nature Preserve area. We knew she had a simple long gold dress we wanted to have her in as the sun was setting. We did the outfit change and the dark clouds started to roll in over the water. We knew we only had limited time before the storm came in.
There were huge puddles in the sand and we decided to play with reflections a little. We still had the sun peeking through for back light. But we did need lighting up front to brighten up the couple and to get a sharper reflection. I love how mommy- to- be is slowly leading daddy- to- be, while holding that belly a little. We needed her to show off the bump in motion! We kept the natural simplicity that she wanted with posing, but were able to capture that dramatic style with the reflection and clouds! Storms can be a good thing for photos! We lucked out and all got back to the cars right before it started to pour!
